Your First Guitar

Question:

acoustic guitar?

So i've never played the guitar before, but i want to learn how to play..just as a hobby. I'm going with an acoustic guitar right now, but i have a bunch of questions about buying one.
how much is a decent acoustic guitar for a 16 year old guy going to cost? I'm not trying to go pro or anything, its just a hobby, so i dont want to spent a lot. What are the good guitar brands? i'm clueless on those. How should i buy one? do i need to go to the store myself and get a fitted one? or what?
please help

Answer:

There are a lot of cheap-worthless guitars that will rattle and give poor results, so you need to be careful. Those are toys made for the empty wallets of parents to satisfy children who want a guitar, but are not serious and will go do something else next week. The very least you might expect to pay for a "real" guitar that can actually make sounds that are "musical" is about $350. But guitars last a long, long time, so a good one is probably worth it for someone who sticks with it. It would be a shame to spend $348 and find you hate the guitar you picked. When people talk about good acoustic guitars, they all say that Martin is what they like and want. But they are expensive, and every Martin I've ever laid hands on was just "fair" to me. That's not bad, because almost all guitars I have ever tried are "poor" or "bad". I have a Carlos guitar. I don't remember where I got it, but I wish I did, it is a "good" guitar compared to other guitars.

I guess they are Korean made. I would not have expected that.
I think Fender makes most of its guitars over there,
but modern Fenders _s `u .c ~ k.
I've never played a vintage Fender.
Collectors pay silly amounts for them and then hide them.
So a good guitar can come from Korea.
My Carlos is not one of the early handcrafted models, and yet is better than all the other acoustic guitars I have found.

When it is time for an electric, a Parker Fly is the only one worth mentioning.
They far outclass every other guitar.
Carbon fiber, smooth as butter.

(No, I don't work for them)
But they cost more than $1000, hard for a teen to find, I know.
I have more to say about them here:
